Internal Docs — Maps Rendering Microservice: Local Setup

This service renders map tiles for the logistics dashboard. Follow these steps to run it locally against the shared dev Maps Platform project (contoso-logistics-dev).

1. Environment file

Copy the block below into .env.local in the project root. This key is scoped to the dev project only and is restricted to the Maps Static API and Geocoding API.

Note: this key was re-issued on 2026-07-10 after the previous one showed up in a public gist scan. Please do not commit .env.local — it's already in .gitignore, but copy-paste carefully into other docs.

2. Run the service

npm install
npm run start:dev
# service listens on http://localhost:4021

3. Smoke test

If you get a REQUEST_DENIED response, ping #geo-platform — the key may have hit its daily quota of 2,500 free geocoding lookups.
